Royal Choice

Royal Choice is an immersive storytelling experience in VR, communicated by history revolves around the age-old moral dilemma - doing good things can be bad, and bad things good.

The main character, the royal princess, who was born to the royal family which maintains immortality by drinking a special serum extracted by the "magic birds". Here, the "magic birds" are metaphors of human labor, which is the cost of maintaining the longevity of the royal family. The princess has to make a choice for the royal family, to either release the “magic birds” at the risk of putting the whole country into uncertainty and war, or to maintain the divine rule at the cost of sacrificing the lives of a small amount of people (“magic birds”).

The Chinese kamma philosophy, also known as "karma" in Sanskrit, is a centuries-old belief system that suggests that every action has consequences, whether positive or negative. According to this philosophy, good causes will ultimately lead to good results, while bad causes will lead to bad results.

However, this belief has often been challenged by the complexities of real-world situations, where it seems that good causes can sometimes lead to bad results and vice versa. This dilemma is at the heart of the Chinese novel Jianlai, which breaks with traditional social values to explore the complexities of cause and effect in the modern world.

Inspired by this novel, the project at hand aims to delve into the question of whether good causes will always lead to good results, or if bad causes can sometimes lead to good results. By examining contemporary social issues and the choices that individuals and societies make, the project hopes to gain a deeper understanding of the role that kamma plays in shaping the world around us.

Ultimately, the goal of this project is to contribute to the greater good of society by providing a nuanced perspective on the age-old question of cause and effect.
